Today's destination took me back in time as I had to head towards my old hometown where I had spent my entire childhood. The streets of Havelock town were exactly as I remembered it five years ago. But nestled among the old buildings was a glass structure that was renowned for its chocolate chip cookies and delicious food, a place that has lived in this city for the few years; the Café Du Monde. My first experience at this restaurant was indeed memorable as the food made a lasting impression on me so I was back here again as today was all about reliving an old memory.
One of the unique and best features about Café Du Monde is that, the restaurant boasts of an extensive variety of goodies. Whether it's a specific beverage, a pasta dish or even a grilled dish; the restaurant offers it all and even though I was quite apprehensive about it in the start as soon as I had my first serving; my doubts flew away and I knew I was going to enjoy this meal.
Glancing at the menu, I decided to opt for something new instead of the usual mango juice I enjoyed. Though there were many varieties of juices and smoothies I would have liked to taste, I chose the Power drink that stood in the page as it had an interesting number of ingredients added to it.
As we sat patiently and waited for our power drinks, which promised to energize us, we ordered the rest of the meals. By now most of you are quite aware that I am a fan of the 'pink delicacy', so when Chef Pierre asked me what I would like to try out from his menu my first answer was, "any dish with prawns"! To help me satisfy my inner hunger for prawns, the Chef decided that I was to have Prawn Creole, an New Orleans dish.
By now, our power drinks were served at the table. From my first sip of the drink, I knew that this was one of the most unique juices I had tasted so far. With more than 10 fruits and vegetables combined to it, the drink not only gave out a vibrant color but also a powerful taste of the ingredients that was mixed into making this drink. After an energizing start, we were served a basket full of bread. The concept of a breadbasket might sound quite boring to most of you but unlike most breads I have tasted this was delicious, soft and definitely one of the best homemade bread in town.
By the time we finished savoring the yummy bread, our main dishes had arrived at our table. While my photographer and I tasted the Prawn Creole the rest of the group ordered the same dish with BBQ chicken as a substitute for prawns.
The Prawn Creole consisted of salad, rice and sweet and sour styled prawns. The prawns were tasty and the dish was quite filling. Even though it wasn't a grand meal it was an ideal dish for lunch. The BBQ chicken one of the best I have had in recent times; it was succulent and soft.
The most anticipated time of today's meal had finally come; the moment to taste the delicious desserts made by Chef Pierre. To relive a previous tasty chocolate experience, I ordered the chocolate pancakes with chocolate sauce. Chocolate profiterole, famous baked Alaska, Home made chocolate chip ice cream were some of the other desserts that I was lucky enough to enjoy.
If you are interested in indulging in tasty chocolate, the dish to order is definitely the Chocolate pancakes. Everything about it was chocolaty and it definitely cured my coco greed for the day.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly the meal was tasty and the company was great; what more could one ask for...
